Shiripuno Birding

At Shiripuno Amazon Lodge is where birding takes a different dimensions: the core of the Amazonian avifauna in Ecuador., is right here. Rare birds, abundance numbers of mixed flock everywhere, typical antbirds, woodcreepers, curassaws, 6 species of manakins in a single trail, our trails are flat in most of the cases. and warn lunch in the forest.

DAY 01: Quito-Coca by airplane. From Coca, we will travel south by small pick ckup or bus to Shiripuno Bridge (approx. 3 hours). Box Lunch. We will take the motorized canoe downstream to our campsite. The journey of about 4 hours offers sitings of Blue-and-Yellow Macaw, White-throated Toucan, Black-capped Donacobious, Common Piping Guan and others. Dinner and lodging.

DAY 02: Breakfast. We will wander along the primary forest trail network behind the Lodge and look for Army Ant Specialists, such as the Lunulated Antbird, White-plumed Antbird, and Sooty Antbird, and visit the different territories of the rare Wing-banded Antbird. There will also be time to observe Striped Manakin. Lunch. We will visit an oxbow lake and search for the White-lored Antpitta. Dinner and lodging.

DAY 03: Breakfast. We will birdwatch along the trail to the Magic Canopy Trail, where there is a good chance of encountering the Cinereous Mourner, Rufous-tailed Antwren, Coraya Wren, Blue-backed Manakin, and when we reach the top, we will enjoy a scenic view of the Amazon Basin at 310 meters above sea level Lunch in the forest. We will continue our birding expedition down to the river.Breakfast. Our next birding day will be on El Misterioso Trail, an ornithologist’s dream come true, containing many mixed flocks, including the Yasuni Antwren, Red-billed Scythebill, Rio Suno Antwren, Ruddy Foliage-gleaner and others that will keep us busy the entire day as we add more species to our list. Lunch in the forest.

DAY 04: Breakfast. Our next birding day will be “El Misterioso Trail” a good birding trail with a lot of mixed flock with Yasuni Antwren, Red-billed Scythebill, Rio Suno Antwren, Ruddy Foliage-gleaner and others, that will keep us busy the entire day as we add more species to our list. Lunch in the forest.

DAY 05: Breakfast. Birdwatching along Skutch Trail in search of the Ochre-striped Antpitta, Ocellated Woodcreeper, Spotted Puffbird and others. Lunch in the Lodge. We will check for some of the vicinity species that we missed earlier.

DAY 06: Breakfast. Birding along the river to the El Saladero Trail, which leads to the forest clay lick where it may be possible to spot the Scarlet Macaw, Orange-cheeked Parrot, and Scarlet-shouldered Parrotlet. Lunch in the forest.

DAY 07: Breakfast. We will travel to the Huaorani Community of Neoneno, where you can learn about the traditions and customs of its people. Lunch. We will continue upstream to the bridge where we board the bus back to Coca (arrival at 16:30 approx.).
