SHIRIPUNO’S CLAY LICKS
7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS

DAY 01: Quito-Coca by airplane. From Coca, we will travel south by small pick-up or bus to Shiripuno Bridge (approx. 3 hours). Lunch. Travel by motorized canoe downstream to the Shiripuno Amazon Lodge, which is at 210 meters above sea level. The ride will take approximately 4 hours and introduces you to the wide diversity of wildlife in the rainforest. Dinner and lodging.

DAY 02: Breakfast. We will hike into the primary forest on the Mirador Trail (3-4 hours), where we will enjoy a scenic view of the Amazon Basin at 310 meters above sea level The Huaorani and naturalist guides will share their knowledge about the biodiversity of the rainforest and medicinal plants that local people use. This hike requires that you be in good physical condition. Lunch. Travel downriver by motorized canoe to the next campsite. Dinner and lodging in tents. We will take a night excursion by canoe to search for caiman.

DAY 03: Breakfast. We will hike the El Saladero trail that leads to the Forest Clay Lick, watching for animals at the clay licks. Along the way we will admire the rich variety of plants and trees. Return to the campsite. Lunch. Travel downstream to our next campsite. Dinner and lodging in tents.

DAY 04: Breakfast. We will hike in the primary forest to search for primates and other wildlife. Lunch. Travel downstream to our next campsite. Dinner and lodging in tents.

DAY 05: We will begin the day birdwatching at the river clay lick at the Cononaco Chico River. From the canoe to we will enjoy sightings of parrots of different species. Breakfast. We will hike in the forest in search of mammals. Lunch. We will continue along along the Cononaco River. We may take a night excursion into the area surrounding the campsite. Dinner and lodging in tents.

DAY 06: Breakfast. We will navigate upstream to the Lodge. This trip will combine the canoe ride with a hike into the forest. Dinner and lodging at the Shiripuno Amazon Lodge.

DAY 07: Breakfast. We will continue upstream until we arrive at the Ñoñeno, another Huaorani community. Here you will be able to take pictures and see and learn about the traditions of the Huaorani people. We will continue to the bridge where our car will take us back to Coca. (Arrival 16:30 hours approx.)
